Jan Chipchase: The anthropology of mobile phones

This month on Poocho Pick, we've picked Jan Chipchase's somewhat old but still relevant TED talk on the anthropology of mobile phones. We fell in love with the simple message he poses - What do people carry? And its corollary - What does this tell us about objects and our psychological needs around them? His research spans India, Uganda and China where phones, illiteracy, and banking intermingle to foretell the future of mobile technology in the world. This talk was given in 2007 but some of its messages are deeply relevant today. These would be 16 minutes well spent, especially if you are a technologist working in emerging markets. [Spoiler alert: Keys, money and cell phone top the list. Small wonder 🙂]‍
